Renowned astrophysicist and former Microsoft Africa Chairman Cheick Modibo Diarra has been named interim Prime Minister for Mali.
This follows last month’s overthrowing of the Mali government and a recent rounding up of top political figures who were close to ousted President Amadou Toumani Toure.
Diarra, who is also a US citizen, had planned to run as the candidate for his Rally For Mali’s Development party in this month’s election. He served as Microsoft Africa Chairman until last year. His nomination as interim prime minister comes just days after a new interim president Dioncounda Traore was sworn in.
