This policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and the rights available to you.
Who We Are
BizTech Africa is a technology and business news platform covering the African tech ecosystem. Our website is available at: https://www.biztechafrica.com.
Comments
When you post a comment on this site, we collect the details you enter in the comment form together with your IP address and browser user agent string. We use this information to assist in detecting and preventing spam.
A hashed version of your email address (a one-way anonymized string) may be sent to the Gravatar service to determine whether you have a Gravatar profile. The Gravatar privacy policy is available at: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Where a profile image is found and your comment is approved, that image will be displayed publicly alongside your comment.
Media
Images uploaded to this site may carry embedded metadata, including GPS coordinates (EXIF data). We recommend stripping this location information before uploading. Any visitor to the site can download your images and extract this data using standard tools.
Cookies
Commenting on this site gives you the option to store your name, email address, and website URL in browser cookies. This is a convenience feature so you do not need to re-enter those details when you comment again. These cookies are set for one year.
When you open our login page, we place a short-lived test cookie in your browser to confirm that cookies are supported. This cookie holds no personal data and is deleted as soon as you close your browser tab.
A successful login triggers several cookies that preserve your session and any display preferences you have configured. Login session cookies expire after two days; display preference cookies persist for one year. Choosing “Remember Me” at login keeps your session active for two weeks. Signing out clears all login cookies from your browser straight away.
Saving or publishing a post causes one additional cookie to be written to your browser. It records only the internal ID of the post and contains no personal data. This cookie is removed automatically after one day.
Embedded Content from Other Websites
Articles published on BizTech Africa may include content embedded from third-party sources — for example, videos, images, or social media posts. When you view this embedded content, it loads in the same way it would if you had visited the originating site directly.
The platforms hosting that content may collect information about you, set their own cookies, or include additional tracking scripts. If you hold an account on any of those platforms and are logged in, they may record how you interact with their content while you are on our site.
Who We Share Your Data With
Password reset requests result in an email being sent to you that includes your IP address as part of the reset process. We do not sell or otherwise share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
How Long We Retain Your Data
Comments and their associated metadata are retained indefinitely. Keeping this data allows us to identify returning commenters and approve their submissions automatically, rather than holding each one in a moderation queue.
Where users register an account on this site, we retain the personal information provided in their profile for as long as the account remains active. Users can view, update, or delete their own profile data at any time through their account settings — with the exception of the username, which is permanent. Site administrators also have access to and can edit this information.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you hold an account on this site or have submitted comments, you are entitled to request a copy of any personal data we hold about you, covering all information you have provided. You also have the right to request the deletion of your personal data. Please note that we may be required to retain certain information for legal, administrative, or security reasons, and such data would be excluded from a deletion request.
Where Your Data Is Sent
Comments submitted to this site may be forwarded to an automated spam detection service for review before publication.
