Aptos (APT) is a Layer-1 blockchain that was launched in 2022 with a strong focus on scalability, security, and reliability.
The emerging proof-of-stake protocol is being positioned as a “Solana Killer” and claims to offer extremely low transaction fees and faster transaction speeds than Ethereum.
Today, we will take a closer look at the Aptos blockchain to understand what it is and how it functions.
We shall also explore its native APT token and its future price prospects to determine whether Aptos is a credible blockchain/cryptocurrency project.
So, let’s get started.
What is Aptos (APT)?
Aptos is a Layer-1 blockchain founded by Avery Ching and Mo Shaikh – former team members of Meta’s ill-fated crypto project ‘Diem’ – in October 2022.
The protocol is designed from the ground up as a cloud infrastructure layer that promises to be highly scalable, secure, and reliable.
The decentralized ecosystem developed using the smart contract programming language Move, employs a parallel execution layer that promises low transaction costs and high-security features.
Currently, there are over 20 decentralized finance (DeFi) projects on the Aptos ecosystem that include decentralized exchanges (DEXs), lending, and liquid staking protocols.
Let us now look at how Aptos functions.
How Does Aptos Work?
Aptos uses a bespoke smart contract programming language called ‘Move’ – which was developed by Meta’s Diem team – to operate its parallel transaction execution layer, known as Block-STM.
Block-STM enhances transaction throughput within the ecosystem and claims it can process up to 160,000 transactions per second (tps) with low latency.
Aptos’ modular blockchain architecture has several key components like smart contract execution, a consensus mechanism, parallel transaction processing, client interfaces, and validator management.
The proof-of-stake blockchain’s consensus mechanism employs a Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) system, where a set of validators collectively process transactions, while clients, who are responsible for submitting transactions or queuing on-chain data, download and verify proofs signed by validators.
Aptos also has full nodes on its network that replicate the transaction and blockchain state, as well as light clients, which maintain the current set of validators and query a partial blockchain state.
The modular design and consensus of the blockchain ensure flexibility, security, and reliability when processing transactions.
What is the APT Token?
APT is the native cryptocurrency of the Aptos blockchain and is primarily used to pay for transactions and as a gas fee on the network. All fees charged on the blockchain are specified in Aptos tokens.
The token is used to incentivize validator nodes and reward users who participate in developing projects designed for Aptos. Additionally, APT holders also get to participate in on-chain governance.
Aptos Token (APT) Price Prediction: 2024, 2025, 2030
At the time of writing, APT is trading at $10.73 – up 6.7% in the last 24 hours.
Based on its current price, APT is forecasted to reach a minimum value of $13.71 and a maximum value of $16.34 this year. The average trading price for the token in 2024 will be $14.11.
In 2025, the price of Aptos is expected to reach a minimum level of $19.40 and a maximum level of $23.67. APT will trade at the average price of $20.11 throughout the year.
The price of 1 APT is predicted to reach a minimum rate of $129.46 and a maximum of $156.38 in 2030. Based on its current market rate, Aptos could be trading at an average price of $134.08 during that year.
Where to Buy Aptos (APT)?
The following are the popular crypto exchanges on which you can trade APT tokens:
Is Aptos a Good Cryptocurrency Investment?
Aptos (APT) is a layer-1 blockchain that promises increased scalability, security, and reliability. The modular blockchain is powered by a unique PoS consensus mechanism that enables parallel execution to process transactions at a throughput of up to 160,000 tps.
The project founded by former team members of Diem has the potential to stand toe-to-toe with leading crypto protocols like Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL).
So far, over 20 DeFi projects, including DEXs, lending, and staking protocols, have been deployed on the Aptos blockchain. The project’s native APT token also has positive future price prospects.
All things considered, I can say Aptos is a credible cryptocurrency project that is constantly working on improving its already state-of-the-art scalability and technology.
However, it is highly recommended that you do your research before investing in APT as cryptocurrencies are prone to extreme market volatility. Always remember not to invest more than you can afford to lose.
