2020 Africa-France Summit, African technologies solutions to cities

Business Botswana and the French Embassy to Botswana assembled a media briefing with the aim of announcing the 2020 Africa-France Summit which will largely entrain African start-ups and new innovation from the continent. The 28th edition of the Africa-France Summit, scheduled for 4 to 6 June 2020 in Bordeaux on the theme of the city and sustainable territories, is an international political, economic and cultural meeting with concrete solutions for the city and sustainable territories.

Her Excellency Laurence Beu, The Ambassador of France to Botswana and Norman Moleele, CEO of Business Botswana presided over the meeting which attracted a sizeable of both young tech geeks and other business people.  

The purpose of the engagement was to appraise stakeholders about the upcoming Africa-France Summit scheduled from June 4th - 6th 2020 in Bordeaux, France, themed “Sustainable Cities and Territories.”

The 3-day event will give a large place to the African and French private sector, notable by starting the summit with a dedicated trade fair, the “city of solutions”, a real space for exhibition and reflection for companies and policy-makers.  “In the case of a theme on mobility in the city, we would assist start-ups that can come up with say an app that helps commuters find their way in the city,” said a presenter at the business meeting. 

The Africa-France 2020 Summit will be an opportunity for all stakeholders in the city, both at the state level, at the levels of civil society, companies and financers, to discuss issues related sustainable territories and provide concrete solutions to the common urban problems of the African people, said in a statement to MAP, Deputy Secretary General of the Summit, Stephan Dubost in a statement on the programme of events.

“The sustainable city is thus a city that involves an environmental, economic and social project,” he said, drawing attention, in this wake, to issues of mobility and access to housing, education and care, which will be widely discussed at this international meeting.

Announced by French President Emmanuel Macron in Ouagadougou in 2017, the 28th edition of the Africa-France 2020 Summit will be marked by the establishment of a “Cité des Solutions”, conceived as a city with an inclusive approach to 360 degrees, organized around seven thematic neighborhoods namely “access to essential services”, “move in the city”, “feed the cities”, “live in the city”, “develop and beautify the city”, “connect the city “and” fund and structure projects “.

 “The sustainable city is thus a city that involves an environmental, economic and social project,” he said, drawing attention, in this wake, to issues of mobility and access to housing, education and care, which will be widely discussed at this international meeting. All in all, the conference expects 15 000 invited stakeholders, and 500 companies from Africa, as well as about 50 000square metres of exhibition space.
