Ethiopian ICT park phase nears completion
DEVELOPMENT
By BiztechAfrica - Feb. 26, 2012, 1:57 p.m.After three years of planning and construction, phase one of Ethiopia’s new ICT precinct is nearing completion.
The Ethiopian ICT park project spans 200 hectares of land on the outskirts of Addis Ababa and is intended to serve as a high-tech hub for industry, and outsource centre and an incubation hub for ICT businesses.
The park will be showcased to international companies during the 10th annual Innovation Africa Digital Summit to be held in Addis Ababa next month.
Ethiopia’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MOCIT) previously said that the park was expected to eventually create up to 300,000 jobs.
On completion, the park will feature a business zone, manufacturing and warehouse zones, as well as separate zones for commercial use and administration, and a knowledge park; as well as commercial and institutional facilities to create a virtual ICT city.
