Telkom Kenya appoints new CEO
Telkom Kenya has announced the appointment of Aldo Mareuse as the Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors.
“As Telkom Kenya (TK) enters a new phase of development, the Telkom Kenya Board and I are confident that Mr. Mareuse is best suited to lead the company through the transformation” said Eddy Njoroge, Chairman of Telkom Kenya’s Board of Directors. “We believe that his experience and proven track record in the telecoms sector as well as his disciplined approach to finance will be invaluable to the organisation as it navigates the transition.”
An Engineer by profession, with 26 years’ experience in the telecommunications sector, Aldo was Managing Partner of Accelero Capital, a telecoms fund management group he co-founded to invest in the telecommunications sector with particular focus on turnaround situations. Prior to Accelero Capital, Aldo was the Group Chief Financial Officer of Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) and Wind Telecom Group. While there he was instrumental in its growth from a mid-sized regional mobile operator with 4 million subscribers in 2002 into a global operator with 100 million subscribers across 4 continents that ultimately merged with VimpelCom Ltd, to create one of the world’s largest telecommunications carriers. Before joining OTH, Aldo was Managing Director at the Investment Banking Division of Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) and also held other senior management positions in Paris, New York and London.

The company has reorganised its structure into four business divisions: Mobile, Fixed, WholeSale and Real Estate.
Amer Atwi joins the company to Head of the Mobile Business Division. Prior to this appointment, Amer was the Managing Director at COMIUM, a mobile telecoms operator in Gambia. He also previously worked in various positions at LibanCell, a mobile operator in Lebanon.
John Barorot, a seasoned professional in the ICT sector, who started his career at Telkom Kenya and later served in senior management positions at Safaricom and Airtel, rejoins the business as its Chief Technical and Information Officer.
George Mokogi, the company’s incumbent Chief Carrier Services Officer becomes head of the Wholesale Division. The Heads of Fixed and Real Estate Business Divisions will be named in due course.
The company’s Chief Finance Officer – Francois Bresson – is confirmed in his role of CFO.
Steven Evans has been appointed Executive Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and will take over the executive responsibilities for Strategy. Steven has over 20 years of experience in senior management in the mobile telecommunications sector. He was CEO at Etisalat Nigeria between 2008 and 2013 and CEO of BT Mobile in the United Kingdom between 2004 and 2007.
