Zambian president witnesses MoU signing with Huawei

The President of the Republic of Zambia, H.E. Edgar Lungu, met with Huawei Senior Vice President Mr. Dafeng Li during his visit to Shenzhen in China.

President Lungu said that Huawei is a leading global ICT corporation, and that he appreciated Huawei for helping the development of Zambian’s information and communications technology (ICT) in the context of Zambia needing more advice from Huawei and its professional knowledge and rich experience.

Dafeng Li, senior vice president of Huawei, said: "The ICT industry is an important driving force for social and economic development, and Huawei is willing to share our global successful experience in the ICT industry with the Zambian government to promote the social and economic development in Zambia."

After the meeting, Huawei donated to the "Seeds for the Future" programme to Zambia, under which Huawei will sponsor up to ten Zambian students majoring in ICT studies in 2015.

Afterwards, Zambia and Huawei signed two memorandums of understanding (MOUs) that were witnessed by H.E. Edgar Lungu and Mr. Dafeng Li. The projects aim to tackle electricity and communication issues in rural areas and will significantly improve people's living standards and promote local economic development.
