Zambia complaints lines launched for SIM reg issues

Zambia’s regulator has highlighted the launch of dedicated lines for complaints by mobile users who have been cut off from the networks despite having registered their SIM cards.

Following the January 31 deadline for SIM registration, Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) said that out of a subscriber base of 9,462,504, a total number of 8,235,991 SIM cards had been registered while 2,215,376 had been deactivated.

However, ZICTA says: “As is the case in any process of this magnitude, some level of margin of error is expected and accepted. It has come to our attention that some people who registered their SIM cards also had their SIM cards deactivated. In order to address this, the service providers have dedicated lines for SIM-related complaints. For Zamtel and MTN, it is 101 and for Airtel, it is 4338. Share this information.”
