WIPO rejects report of new Director-General
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has rejected a report issued late yesterday stating that Sudanese lawyer Kamil Idris has been reappointed as the Director-General of the organisation.
A statement attributed to Idris and issued via an online PR dissemination hub, PRNewswire, yesterday stated that he had been appointed as WIPO Director-General. The news was quickly republished on numerous news sites.
However, WIPO expressed surprise at the report today, stating that it was incorrect and did not originate with WIPO.
Idris served as Director General of WIPO from 1997 to 2008, and stepped down from the post early.
