Wiko‎ eyes 10% market share

New entrant to Nigeria’s mobile phone industry and French firm, Wiko Mobile, says it is targeting 10 per cent of Nigeria’s market, arguing that its late entry into the market will not have any adverse effect on its products’ acceptability.

According to the firm, when it launched in France, mobile telephony was already more than two decades old, adding that today, it is one of the leading mobile phone firm in the country with substantial share of the market share.

Wiko Mobile’s Director, International Business, Mr Marcel Van De Per, who spoke on the sideline with Biztechafrica.com at the launch of the firm’s range of products at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, said from his experience, the youth segment of the market share already responding positively to the Wiko range of beautiful and affordable range of products.

He said: ‎"We are targeting at least, 10 per cent of the market share here. We have successfully launched in other parts of the continent having recorded outstanding success in Europe.

“We have also identified Nigeria as an emerging telecoms market and one of the fast-growing in the world and as such, we are bringing our quality brand of smartphones into the Nigerian market, where data availability and lower cost of devices is driving smartphone adoption."

He explained that as Europe’s fastest growing phone brand, Wiko is introducing an exciting range of phones into the market at affordable prices without compromising quality.

According to him, after establishing a strong market position in Europe in just three years, Wiko started its operation in West Africa by launching its portfolio of 10 phones in Nigeria.
