Labouchere is not the only betting system out there.
Let it be in roulette or any other game, we are exposed to many such betting frameworks that can adapt to our gameplay. All the credit for your winnings actually goes to the one who invented it, right? The masterminds behind curating such betting systems really did make a huge contribution to our gambling interests. In the article, we are about to look at who the whole world considers to be the inventor of the game. Another question persists, is this person really the one who invented it? Let us find answers.
Who invented the Labouchere system of roulette?
Henry Labouchere, an English writer and politician, is often credited with the invention of the Labouchere system. His surname is used to name the system, which is quite obvious and you may have already guessed that by now. For a long time, everyone credited Henry with being the brilliant mind behind this system. The fans admired this British writer for being a genius mathematician too. However, further findings found that Henry may not be the real brain behind the Labouchere system. So, was everyone mistaken? Was Henry getting the recognition that someone else deserved? Let us read.
If not Henry, then who?
It was actually, Condorcet, a mathematician and politician hailing from 18th-century France who invented the system. Marie Jean Antoine Nicolas de Caritat, the Marquis of Condorcet was a notable figure in society and politics back in the 18th century. As for the many advanced and possessive minds that France has contributed to the world, Condorcet was one too.
Condorcet was a mathematical mind, who invented the stem where he uses a mathematical formula that lets the winner beat the roulette game. His prowess in mathematics is never doubted as he himself was the man behind the Condorcet Method, the revolutionary voting method. He advocated voting and human rights even in the 18th century. Also, he actively provided advocacy and agency for the role that women should get to play in society.
Maybe, Condorcet also had a passion for the game of roulette. Maybe he was an ardent fan. Mayhem spent his leisure time in the gambling spots to relieve his mind from all the political and social activities.
How did Henry Labouchere enter the scene?
The world acknowledged Henry with the credit of the roulette system, much after his death. After the death of Henry, his son wrote a biography of him. It was in this biography, that the world first got introduced to the betting system.
However, Henry nor his son ever stole the credit from the real one. The biography clearly states that Henry found out about this gaming method, in one of the books that he purchased. Henry came across the betting method in one of the letters Condorcet had exchanged with his friends.
Since the gaming method gained popularity, the mob popularised the biography. Now, it is safe to say that Condorcet is the mastermind behind the strategy, and the world came to know about this, through the biography of Henry written by his son. If Henry did not have a passion for roulette and if his son did not take it to write a biography, we would never be aware of this amazing roulette strategy.
Let us wrap things
Labouchere has been used multiple times by all the people across the world. The roulette system has helped thousands of players to win the game. Even when it was attested with modern-day computer algorithms, it was shown that using the Labouchere method guarantees a 95% win in the game. It is quite amazing to think that a mathematician was able to divide such a mathematical formula to win the game back in the 18th century when there were no supercomputers, programming languages, or artificial intelligence.
