Customers of Vodafone Ghana will soon be enjoying superior internet connectivity services on their network. Officials of Vodafone Ghana say plans are far advance in the deployment of it newly acquired 4G LTE spectrum by the second quarter of this year.
The Chief Executive of Vodafone Ghana, Yolanda Cuba said Vodafone is committed to continuously work with the regulator to promote digital inclusion in the country, for which the 4G spectrum will play a critical role
“We are excited that after three years of persistent constructive engagements with the regulator and policymakers, we now have the opportunity to operate an LTE 4G licence in Ghana. We are happy that our customers will finally experience faster data speed.
Confirming to Biztechafrica in Accra the Corporate Relations Manager at Vodafone Ghana, Ebenezer Amankwah said the company is looking at full deployment by the second quarter of this year which is then the beginning of April 2019.
Meanwhile Ghana’s third telecom leader by market share has revealed that it has no intention of listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange following its acquisition of the 4G licence from the regulator.
Although mandated by law to list 25% of its shares on the Ghana Stock Exchange for the benefit of Ghanaians, Vodafone Ghana CEO, Yolanda Cuba said the business has already met this requirement due to government’s 30% ownership in the company.
“We are not listing on the Ghana Stock. As it stands now, Ghanaians own 30% of the company through the Government of Ghana; this far exceeds the percentage required for listing so we have already satisfied that criteria. Our focus now is on restructuring our infrastructure in readiness for 4G deployment by the second quarter of this year. We know it’ll take thrice the amount, used in purchasing the licence, to deploy and we are committed to making that possible.”
