UBA appoints local head for Kenyan operations
The UBA Kenya Bank Board has announced the appointment of Mr Isaac Mwige as the Bank’s new Chief Executive Officer. Making the announcement, UBA Kenya Chairman, Mr Ngugi Kiuna termed Mr Mwige’s appointment as a transformative step towards localizing Africa’s Global Bank. He said “Mr Mwige becomes our first indigenous CEO and he brings to the Bank a wealth of experience drawn from corporate and retail banking having worked in various capacities within East and West Africa”.
“During this time of transformation, there is no better person to lead the bank” Said Mr Kiuna. “Mwige is a proven leader with results, business vision and the ability to bring people together. His vision for how UBA will be felt and experienced is exactly what we as a board need as we enter a new chapter of expanded product innovation and growth.”
On his part, Mr Mwige said “UBA is one of those rare companies to have truly revolutionized hope in Africa through facilitation built around a banking platform and I couldn’t be more honored to have been chosen to lead the banks Kenyan operations,” He added “The opportunity ahead for the Bank is vast, but to seize it, we must focus clearly, move faster and continue to transform.” “A big part of my job is to accelerate our ability to bring innovative, practical and functional products to our customers more quickly.”
As CEO, Mr Mwige’s first task will be to continue the enhanced growth of the UBA brand by increasing touch-points with various stakeholders. This will be achieved through leveraging the banks strong wholesale proposition as well as ensuring that the Bank always maintains truly competitive solutions and assumes its thought leadership position in the marketplace.
Succeeding Mr Tunji Adeniyi, who has been with UBA Kenya serving as CEO, Mr. Mwige joins UBA from Equity Bank, where he served as Director of Relationship Banking. Previously, he worked with Standard Chartered Bank as the Director, Transaction Banking, East and West Africa. He brings with him over 17 years of experience in banking.
While making the announcement, the Board of Directors also thanked the outgoing CEO Mr. Adeniyi for his exceptional leadership and vision for UBA Kenya.
