Tigo Ghana warns on text scams
Tigo Ghana has issued a statement warning customers not to fall victim to text-based scams using the telco’s name.
The statement said Tigo’s attention had been drawn to the circulation of text messages indicating that some subscribers have won one of several prizes in a promotion. These subscribers are then requested to redeem their prizes by calling back or sending a text message to a specific number within a specified time.
The statement read: “Please note that such text messages are fraudulent and do not originate from Tigo Ghana. Subscribers who receive such text messages are strongly encouraged to disregard them and report them by forwarding the message to Tigo short code 419. “
Tigo subscribers can access all genuine Tigo promotions from the official Tigo website www.tigo.com.gh, the Tigo official Facebook page - www.facebook.com/tigogh or Tigo’s 24-hour dedicated Customer Care hotline 100.
In order not to fall prey to these scams, Tigo subscribers are encouraged to note the following:
All promotions from Tigo Ghana can be authenticated on the official Tigo website www.tigo.com.gh or Facebook page www.facebook.com/tigogh.
Tigo noted that it does not charge any money to enable subscribers participate in a promotion or redeem a prize and will always publish the names of winners of all Tigo Promotions.
Tigo will also directly call all winners of promotions organized by the company using our official Tigo line and redemption of prizes will never be done through a 3rd party.
Redemption centers will be set up whenever required at Tigo Customer Service Centers or accredited dealer premises.
Tigo remains committed to working in partnership with the security agencies and all stakeholders to eliminate the problem.
