Telecoms Hall of Fame inducts Glo chairman, Adenuga

Globacom has been named best mobile operator for the year 2016 by Logica Communications, organisers of the annual Nigeria Telecom Awards, while its chairman, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr., has been inducted into the Telecoms Hall of Fame for Telecoms Development as a Platinum member.
Receiving the Platinum Hall of Fame plaque on behalf of Dr. Adenuga at the Gloworld Shop in Victoria Island, the company’s Executive Director, Special Projects, Mr. Michael Jituboh, said that Dr. Adenuga Jr. as a philanthropist would continue to make life easy for Nigerians through people-oriented investments. He said: “His philosophy is that if we do not invest in our country, nobody will do it for us,” adding that Globacom will remain committed to its vision of being the biggest and best network wherever it operates.
While reading the citation for Dr. Adenuga, the Executive Chairman of Logica Communications, Otunba Biodun Ajiboye explained that the billionaire businessman was chosen for being Africa’s icon in telecommunications and for his role in revolutionizing the Nigerian telecoms business.
Globacom was awarded the Mobile Telecoms Operator Award of the Year for its heavy investments in telecommunications infrastructure in Nigeria and pioneering roles in the industry. Mr. Folu Aderibigbe, Globacom’s Commercial Coordinator, Business Enterprise, received the award on behalf of the company.
Ajiboye said the company’s societal relevance through its customer-centric services and activities were considered before arriving at the decision. He explained that the award jury was made up of ICT experts led by Dr. Simon Olawale, the Dean of Faculty of ICT, Osun State University, and that the awards were solely made on merit and endorsed by the industry regulators, who maintained close oversight over the award criteria and qualification processes.
The organisers said that three mobile operators were nominated in the category but Globacom emerged the winner not only for the acceptance of its products and brand, but also for their reliability and affordability.
