Telecel Burkina Faso to upgrade WiFi

Israeli wireless broadband solutions provider Alvarion has announced that it is supplying base stations for high speed Wi-Fi services provided by Telecel.

Alvarion is providing the equipment via subsidiary Wavion.

The network covers the capital Ouagadougou using Wavion’s two-way beam forming Wi-Fi base stations for blanket coverage in major metro areas, including business districts, city centres, education campuses, hotels, the international airport and key residential areas.

It enables connection to the internet via smartphones, tablets and netbooks at download speeds of up to 2Mbps. Customers are able to enjoy services such as video, image transfer, social networking and internet browsing.

Network expansions to additional cities, including Bobo-Dioulasso and Koudougou, are currently in the planning stages for early this year, allowing the service to reach over two million people.
