Telcos to pay Accra debts

Three telecommunications companies in Ghana – Tigo, Airtel and Expresso – which operate offices within the Accra Metropolis, have agreed to pay their Business Operating Permit and Property Rates owed the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, following a closed door meeting with the National Communication Authority.
Speaking exclusively with BiztechAfrica in Accra, the Metro Finance Director at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Mr. Samuel Aryee, said the three telecom networks have reached an agreement with the assembly with the aim of both achieving the same goal of settling the anomalies.
The assembly said the three had defaulted on the payment of business operating permits and property rate for masts mounted in various parts of Accra.
Last week, the assembly threatened to shut the Accra offices of the telcos on Monday if they fail to pay up their debts by Friday.
