Tanzania counts down to digital TV, MNP
Tanzania will officially switch to digital broadcasting on 1 January, and aims to introduce MNP next year.
The Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology says the use of analogue broadcasting technology will formally end at midnight on December 31, 2012.
It notes that digital broadcasting will bring with it improved TV quality and more efficient use of spectrum.
The government also plans to introduce mobile number portability next year.
It had been envisaged that MNP would begin this year, but operators are reported to have requested more time to prepare their systems for the move.
