RURA steps in to ensure internet service quality

Rwanda’s utilities regulator has introduced new rules to enforce quality and continuity of internet service.

The Rwandan Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) has made it mandatory for ISPs to provide seamless redundancy and diversity of internet bandwidth to guarantee service.

RURA will institute a settlement system shortly to allow inter-operator bandwidth backup and seamless routing once any operator's available bandwidth drops to a predetermined threshold.

The government intends the new directive to allow any ISP affected by disruptions to reroute customers to another ISP’s network at a set price.
