Riverbed gears up to make African telcos more profitable

Application performance technology Riverbed Technology is stepping up its focus on Africa’s telcos, with plans to launch a dedicated telco vertical later this year.

Speaking in South Africa after the recent Riverbed Disrupt event in the US, Taj Elkhayat, Regional Vice President Middle East, Turkey and Africa for Riverbed Technology, said there was a growing need among telcos to deliver more value added services to customers.

“Rather than taking our application performance and network optimisation solutions just to end customers, which in effect would reduce the amount of data they need to buy from telcos, we are also moving to help telcos optimise their own networks and application performance, allowing them to offer more added value services at a lower cost,” says Elkhayat.

“This allows them to launch new and profitable revenue streams and improve their service offering for their end customers.” He expects Riverbed’s services to African telcos to prove a high growth area for Riverbed. “Already, a large proportion of our global revenue is from service providers. Our solutions are becoming part of core telco operations in regions like the Middle East, and we are enabling global telcos to add to their managed services offerings and enhance network and application performance,” he notes.

Elkhayat also highlighted the transformative technologies that were the focus of Riverbed Technology’s recent Riverbed Disrupt conference. Among them were SteelConnect 2.0, an application-defined SD-WAN solution that delivers enterprise-scale networking for the cloud-first world and integrated visibility; Riverbed Cloud-Ready Branch, a software-defined, cloud-ready solution that provides a simple, agile and scalable way to deploy and manage all branch office IT needs; SteelCentral SaaS for comprehensive visibility on and off the cloud and new end user experience management across devices with SteelCentral Aternity; and new cloud and virtualised form factors for SteelFusion.

The new solutions extend the Riverbed Application Performance Platform, and deliver the agility, visibility, and performance businesses need to be successful in a cloud and digital world.  By leveraging the Platform, organisations can deliver apps, data, and services from any public, private, or hybrid cloud across any network to any end-point.
