BIH phase one complete
The first phase of Botswana’s new Innovation Hub and Science and Technology Park is complete.
The Botswana Innovation Hub (BIH) will serve as a high-tech knowledge centre and ICT innovation incubator for the country. Phase one included the construction of roads and infrastructure to serve the hub.
Botswana’s Minister of Science and Technology, Johnie Swartz, was given a tour of the completed work, and updated on its progress.
He was told that nine companies have so far been registered as BIH tenants, including Microsoft, which will occupy premises to be constructed in phase two.
Other accredited tenants include Southern Mapping International; the University of Botswana – Research Commercialisation Office; AoB AcademE (Pty) Ltd; WebLogic; National Food Technology Research Centre; Kaelekae; Renderheads and Tirisanyo Consulting.
Up to 45 companies have expressed interest in BIH. Around 30 000 m2 of space is scheduled to be ready for rent by end of 2013.
