Orange rolls out 3G network in Nakuru County
A month after the roll out its 3G network in Uasin Gishu County, integrated telecommunications solutions provider Orange has added Nakuru County into the fold as the fifth County covered by its high-speed 3G service. This comes at a time when the company is moving to consolidate its data services business in the current financial year, with mobile Internet being viewed as the next growth area in the country’s telecommunication industry.
The company is already recording impressive results from its data business, with the unit growing by 17 per cent in the first quarter, on a year-on-year basis. This performance has been propelled by the provision of the Orange high-speed broadband to 31 county governments and through the improvement of the company’s network across the country.
Company CEO Mickael Ghossein said that the endorsement by the industry regulator, the Communications Commission of Kenya, as having the best 3G network in terms of quality of service is enough motivation to maintain the same standard and expand the same quality to new areas in the country.
“Part of our KSh2.5 billion investment this year has been dedicated to the rolling out of 3G network across the country, and the transformation of our operations to enhance service delivery,” says Ghossein.
He adds that Orange is strengthening its national broadband reach with the laying of transport cables across the country, in preparation for the launch of Internet connectivity via optional fibre networks in Kenya and by extension, the region.
To celebrate the roll-out of the 3G network into Nakuru County, Orange is offering 100 per cent data bonus on all Internet bundles from 20MB to 20GB. The offer, which has been running since April 25, will expire on July 25 and is available countrywide to both Internet on mobile and Internet everywhere (modem) customers. Subscribers will be able to use the bonus data between 10pm and 6am, daily.
For customers to subscribe to the offer, they will be required to dial #123#, select option 3 and then 2 for the offers from their Internet enabled phones. Customers can check their usage by dialing *131# on their mobile phones.
