NITA-U set for East Africa BPO conference
The National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U), in partnership with the Uganda Business Process Outsourcing Association (UBPOA), will stage a three-day regional BPO Leadership Conference from 18th to 20th September 2013 at the Serena Hotel, Kampala.
The East Africa Regional BPO Conference is a specially designed forum that brings together key players and policy makers in the ICT sector to discuss and debate around critical issues and needs in Offshore/Near shore IT & BPO outsourcing. The Conference theme this year is “OPTIMISING BPO FOR COMPETITIVENESS”
The forum will bring together visionaries from Government, Services Providers (IT & BPO) and leading buyer dignitaries. In addition, a delegation from India NASSCOM (leading in BPO) will also be attending and sharing their experiences in the transformation of India into a global leading BPO center. “The conference is intended to find solutions to create better understanding of the potential of BPO in addressing some of the pertinent issues in Uganda like increasing youth unemployment and development of SMEs in Uganda as a key driver of growth and development.’’
NITA-U Executive Director James Saaka said that NITA has carried out a number of initiatives that include setting up of the training and incubation center at Statistics House that has already trained over 500 Ugandans in ICT; this marks the beginning and a concerted effort in the development of the ICT and BPO Sector in Uganda.
The conference will kick off with the official launch of the BPO Centre on the 18th September 2013 at Statistics House and evolve into intense presentations and discussion from and between renowned BPO stakeholders and users.
The main objectives of this forum are:
* To set up an infrastructural network that can support the BPO Industry in Uganda;
* To market Uganda as a preferred BPO destination within the region;
* To establish partnerships with the private sector to enable the sustainability of the industry now that it is set up;
* To make known and engage all stakeholder that provide services to better the BPO services offered in the region.
