NiRA to spend NGN11m to get Nigeria to .ng
The Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NiRA) has budgeted NGN 11 million for an infrastructure upgrade to migrate more Nigerian sites to the .ng domain.
NiRA’s ongoing campaign to get sites to switch to .ng have met with a slow response so far.
The Association hopes to have 250,000 .ng domains registered by next year.
Ope Odusan, chief operating Officer of NIRA, said given the urgency and scope of the project, the infrastructures to support it needed to be more robust.
He said the upgrade would include the network subsystem and servers, power systems and customer support systems. Odusan added that NiRA would also ensure greater stability and security of .ng ccTLD and expand its ‘Swhich to .ng” campaign’.
