Nigeria Government approves N204m for web-based system to monitor highway construction
Nigeria government on Wednesday announced it has approved N204 Million for design and deployment of a web-based management system that will be used to monitor highway construction and to provide efficiency on projects and improve service delivery.
The web-based management system is an information and communication device when deployed will enable citizens the opportunity to give an assessment report of contract performance of various projects.
Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, says the device is being procured by the ministry in order to improve its capacity to monitor not only contract performance, but also maintenance of its roads. It will also empower 36 controllers in each of the states of the federation and six zonal directors to improve service delivery.
The Minister believes that deployment ICT would be appreciated when it’s understood that there are over 13,000 kilometers of road networks as at the close of December 2020, manifest with over 700 different contracts.
“We have different contracts to manage, so we are deploying ICT. Upon full deployment, one of the things you will see is that citizens will be expected to become an army of reporters providing us with information so that we can respond more quickly, because this will be a web based reporting and monitoring system,” he said.
