Nigeria approves new voter card

Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the design of a new permanent voter card.

The samples of the new chip-based card have been approved, says INEC, and work will begin to print 40 million cards at a cost of N2.6 billion.

The Commission aims to begin distribution before the end of this year. By 2015, every eligible registered voter should be in possession of a new voter card.
