Nigeria approves January 15 migration deadline
Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the White Paper on the migration from analogue to digital broadcasting, with a deadline of January 2015.
The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, his counterpart in the Communication Technology Ministry, Omobola Johnson, and the Minister of Environment, Hajia Hadiza Mailafia, said the migration would improve TV signal quality and free more spectrum.
Maku said at least two signal distributors would be licensed: one a public signal distributor and another a private signal distributor.
Johnson said the policy would enable consumers to access quality signals and up to 100 TV channels. She said the government was looking at ways to ensure the necessary set top boxes were made available at an affordable price.
