The Chairman and Board of Directors of MTN Group Limited has announced that following Phuthuma Nhleko’ s stepping down as Group President and CEO, he has resigned from all boards of the cellular network company.

The Board said Nhleko, who has been with the company for nine and half years, has stepped down from the directorships of MTN Group Limited, MTN Dubai Limited, MTN South Africa, MTN Nigeria, Irancell and MTN Syria.

His resignation is effective from March 31, his last day as Group President and CEO of MTN.

MTN Group also recently announced the appointment of former MTN Nigeria CEO Ahmed Faroukh as its vice-president for the west and central Africa region. It also appointed MTN Ghana CEO Brett Goschen to replace Faroukh as MTN Nigeria CEO; and Michael Ipoki, sales and distribution executive for MTN Nigeria, is to replace Goschen as CEO in Ghana.

Goshen addressed journalists on his exit from Ghana, saying he was confident MTN would continue to retain its number one position in Ghana. He expressed the view that mobile data would drive much of this growth.
