New CEO for Kenya ICT Authority

Eng Victor Kyalo has been confirmed the first CEO of newly restructured Kenya ICT Authority.

Kyalo who has been acting in the position for the last eight months will steer the authority for the next three years.

Making the announcement the authority’s chairman Edwin Yinda said Kyalo’s first role will be to develop Kenya’s national broadband master plan.

Dr Fred Matiang’i, the Cabinet Secretary,Ministry of ICT has already  appointed six members to the board of ICT Authority including: Prof Timothy Waema,Ms Esther Kibeere,Ms Bertha Dena,Prof Elijah Omwenga,Mr David Mugo and Mr Ugas Mohamed.

The board chairman, Mr Edwin Ochieng Yinda, who was appointed by the President in December, 2013. The new board will  also serve for a term of 3 years.

The new ICT Authority Board is an amalgamation of the former Kenya ICT Board, Department of e-Government and the Government Information Technology Services (GITS), which merged in August 2013.

The ICT Authority is already working on validating and updating the National ICT Master Plan 2017, and also collaborating with the counties in coming up with their ICT Masterplans.

The authority’s mission is to enable Kenya  adopt and exploit ICTs through promotion of partnerships, investments and infrastructure growth for socio-economic enrichment. 

Kyalo is the founding member of Kenya Education Network (KENET).

He has also headed the Kenya Network Information Center (KeNIC) apart from working under Netcom Systems as the lead Infrastructure consultant.

He has a Master of Arts Degree in Economics (econometrics & systems measurements) and a Master of Electronic Engineering and Diploma of Electronic Engineering from Eindhoven International Institute of technological studies and Eindhoven Technical University.
