NCC to lobby for more spectrum
Nigeria’s Communications Commission is expected to lobby for additional spectrum when it attends the World Radiocommunication Conference 2012 in Geneva next year.
The NCC will send a delegation to the conference from January 23 to February 17.
The delegation is expected to lobby for additional spectrum in the 700MHz band to allow African telecoms operators to meet growing voice and data demands.
The World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-12) reviews, and, if necessary, revises the Radio Regulations, the international treaty governing the use of the radio-frequency spectrum and the geostationary-satellite and non-geostationary-satellite orbits.
The ITU and the Africa Telecommunication Union (ATU) met in Geneva, last month for the 3rd African Group Preparatory Meeting for the radiocommunication meetings next year and agreed to push for additional spectrum to be released to African regulators.
