MTN Uganda pays US$100 million for 12-year License renewal

MTN Uganda announced the conclusion of negotiations for the renewal of its Second National Operator license in Uganda which expired after twenty years in October 2018. The company has fulfilled all conditions precedent to the license, including the payment of a total sum of US$100 million as a license renewal fee for a period of 12 years commencing 1 July 2020. The renewal negotiations had been ongoing for close to 2 years.

MTN and the Commission will conclude the signature of the License Agreement within the coming days. MTN Uganda is the largest telecom company in Uganda, with over 12 million subscribers.
