MTN is Ivory Coast mobile market leader

With eight million subscribers out of a population of 22 million, South Africa’s mobile operator MTN has claimed the title of mobile market leader in Ivory Coast (Cote d’Ivoire).
“For the second consecutive year, the quality of MTN network has been acknowledged as the best in the Ivorian market,” MTN Cote d’Ivoire CEO Wim Vanhelleputte said.
MTN CI had to brave fierce competition from other mobile operators such as Moov CI, Comium CI and Orange CI, among others.
MTN, which is present in about 21 countries across the globe, has also seen its African subsidiaries such as MTN Congo and MTN CI taking home prestigious awards at the recent ATP 2014 Awards held in the commercial capital Abidjan.
These awards, Vanhelleputte said, duly confirm the company’s leadership in the telecom sector both at a national and regional level.
“MTN is the best network in Ivory Coast and why not in Africa. Well, that’s my point of view. I have been using the network since it started operating in this country,” civil servant Nicolas Aka said.
MTN launched operations in this West African nation in 2005, and will this year celebrate its 10th anniversary.
“I travel a lot in the remote areas of Ivory Coast and I never complain about the coverage there. Its signal is good everywhere you go,” businessman Amadou Traoré said.
