From a humble subscriber base of 2.5 million in 2006, MTN Ghana’s subscriber base over the years has continued to witness a significant increase which has now resulted in the celebration of its 15 million subscribers this year. This mammoth achievement by Ghana’s leading network operator MTN can be traced to its commitment to invest in expanding and modernising its networks nationwide. Since 2006 MTN Ghana has set its eyes on bringing in innovative, relevant products and services to customers leading to a total investment of over USD2.5 billion.
With a robust 2G and 3G network, three state of the art data centers, the West Africa Cable System (WACS) and over 4,500 KM of fibre, the yellow network operator continues to deliver extensive, reliable, fast voice and data services to Ghanaians.
Speaking at a ceremony to outdoor the MTN’s 15 Millionth Customer Celebration in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana Mr. Ebenezer Twum Asante acknowledged that an ever increasing subscriber base coupled with ever increasing bandwidth demand calls for substantial infrastructure investments to ensure a network that is continually prepared to support all that demand. “MTN as a leader in the telecoms industry recognizes its role in making the right investments to support the ever changing demands of this customer, underscored by its vision to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world to its customers," he said.
He noted the recent quality of service monitoring results on data services released by the National Communication Authority (NCA) indicates the level of investments his outfit has made in the network and reiterated further that MTN will continue to explore new and different ways of meeting the ever changing telecom needs of customers with innovative offers.
“In addition to all of the above, we are also focused on giving back to our communities. MTN Foundation’s sustained CSR investments have resulted in 102 major projects since 2007 with an investment of over GHS 21 million and impacted more than three million people directly and indirectly.”
Mr. Twun Asante then expressed MTN’s profound gratitude to key stakeholders including the Ministry of Communication, the National Communication Authority, the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunication and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC) for their immense support.
Loyal customers of MTN were presented with phones, credits and other souvenirs to mark the celebration of the MTN Ghana 15 millionth subscriber.
