MTN Ghana invests 460 Million Ghana Cedi into operations

Despite huge challenges to its operations in the delivery of a bold digital new world to its teeming subscribers nationwide, MTN Ghana has reiterated its commitment to invest heavily in the network to enable it carry out the provision of quality, reliable yet affordable network service to Ghanaians and also contribute immensely to the socio-economic development and growth of the country.
In demonstration of such commitment, MTN, Ghana’s leading network operator in terms of market share and profit, told editors at an annual meeting in Accra that it is committing a total of GH.C 46O Million for the year 2015 to investment into improving the network.
Against the backdrop of high battery theft, frequent fibre optic cuts and erratic power supply experienced by the operator in 2014, MTN Ghana says it continues to live up to it expectations by churning out quality and innovative products and services. One such innovative product is the MTN Mobile Money Wallet, which is widely patronised and currently the preferred choice of method for sending or remitting money to family, friends and loved ones within Ghana.
Just like the M-Pesa in Kenya and other East African countries, MTN Mobile Money platform in Ghana has helped corporate institutions to roll out an effective payment system to employees and clients across the length and breadth of the country. Central Bank, together with other financial institution in the country, are now collaborating with the MTN Mobile Money platform to assist the country’s unbanked sector.
With the recent increase in the usage of data in Ghana, MTN says it has added an additional 112 3G sites to the existing ones to ensure a robust network system that would help meet the high demand for data.
And knowing the main drivers of data usage in the internet world, new local mobile applications are been helped to be developed through the MTN Apps Challenge which has so far produced a world class mobile app play station known as the “OWARE” currently enjoying over thirty three thousand (33,000) downloads across the world.
The well attended forum addressed by CEO Serame Taukobong was to share an overview of MTN’s business performance and its focus for the year 2015.
