MTN Apps Challenge 5.0 introduces two new categories

Officials at MTN Ghana have made two new additions to the MTN App Challenge season 5.0. The new additions are the best female project developer and the KatAppult initiative.
Explaining the reasons for the new additions during the launch of season 5.0 of the Challenge in Accra, the Chief Marketing Officer at MTN Ghana, Asher Khan, revealed that as a result of evaluations made of the previous versions that showed that MTN Apps Challenge over the years has been male dominated and there was a need to encourage female participation.
“On the other hand, the KatAppult initiative is a commercialization project which seeks to refine and commercialize winning ideas of MTN Apps Challenge creators. This would be done in four-thronged process of discovering the innovation, refining the business models while looking for early adopter, developing the innovation and commercializing the innovation,” he added.
Mr. Khan then acknowledged the success of previous seasons of the MTN Apps Challenge and urged Ghanaian innovators to take advantage of the opportunities the Challenge is offering by submitting entries to the three categories.
“You will agree with me that there is exponential growth in the number of participants since we started. 40 developers at the first edition, to hundreds of developers at the fourth edition, we have no doubt that the MTN Apps Challenge will bring hundreds more in Season 5.0. Like the previous seasons, the project categories for innovator participation remain the same. They are the Internet of Things (IoT), Mobile Apps and Animated videos categories. Participant innovators can submit entries to these three categories as a university student, freelancer or from Senior High School,” he said.
