MTN Cameroon has announced that it intends to boost its contribution towards the development of telecommunications in Cameroon, by investing ‘massively’ in its infrastructure over the next three years to enable the aligning of the country with the New Digital World and participate significantly in democratizing internet access.

In spite of the difficult economic environment, MTN Cameroon realised a positive 2013. The Company especially registered 1.3 million new subscribers to its network and consolidated its market share leadership in the 10 regions of Cameroon.

Incorporated in Cameroon in February 2000 following the acquisition of Camtel Mobile, MTN now holds a 57% market share and has constructed a state-of-the-art telecommunications network which is currently the most extended and utilised in the country. MTN has also become the highest contributor to the State with roughly 600 billion FCFA of taxes and duties paid since 2000, and the creation of close to 200 000 indirect jobs.

“Thanks to the technological advancements in the telecommunications industry, the world which we shall live in is a radically different world. MTN, bearer of innovations already realized in the countries where it has footprints, wishes to support Cameroon in terms of aligning the country with these profound changes,” says the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon, Karl Toriola.
