Movitel sets Mozambique launch date

Mozambique’s third mobile licence holder, Movitel, is set to launch early in January.

The company is owned by Viettel Group, a unit of Vietnam Military Telecommunications Corp. and SPI - Gestao e Investimentos, the investment arm of Mozambique's ruling party and a group of investors known as Invespark.

Movitel said earlier this year it would invest USD465 million in Mozambique and had begun rolling out infrastructure and initiated limited services.

It is reported to have set 8 January as its official launch date.

The company plans to start operating with 95% coverage at launch, with 100% coverage envisaged within a few months.
