Main One grows, tackles new frontiers
Main One Cable Company, now marking its second year in existence, says it plans to increase investment in its network and expand into new regions.
Nigeria-based Main One has invested over USD255 million in its undersea cable and USD15 million on expanding its infrastructure, and now plans to extend services into Togo, Burkina Faso and Niger.
The company also recently upgraded its lit capacity on its undersea fibre optic cable with an additional 20Gbps between Nigeria and Portugal to meet growing demand.
CEO Funke Opeke says the company has started investing in distribution infrastructure as well as building its own networks. Opeke noted that is it still costly to take access inland, and urged the government to open the broadband market to help bring prices down.
