LASIMRA to enforce standards for telco, bank infrastructure
By Kokumo Goodie, Lagos, Nigeria
The Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) has restated its commitment to the regulation of the communication infrastructure space in the telecommunications, financial services and utilities sectors.
The new General Manager of the agency, Mr. Babajide Odekunle, who spoke in Lagos, said the era of impunity by service providers in the area of adherence standards has gone, adding that telcos as well as financial institutions wishing to erect communications infrastructure must use materials approved by the agency.
He also said it no longer shall be business as usual as undue delay in completion of approved works on major roads by utility firms will no longer be tolerated.
Mr. Odekunle said before the end of the year, a meeting of stakeholders in the industry would be convened.
He also said an audit of all communications infrastructure in the state would soon be undertaken by the agency.
In identifying with the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to make governance responsive to the people of the state, the agency gave out dedicated hot line numbers: 09081154716 and 08162667719, for the public to reach out to the agency for enquiries and report any attempt to lay cables on or under any road in the state.
