Uhuru Kenyatta

Uhuru Kenyatta has been declared Kenya’s next President after a tallying process delayed by technical hitches.

Kenya’s Independent, Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Issack Hassan declared Kenyatta the duly elected President earlier today. He garnered 50.07% of the total votes cast, with 6, 173, 433 votes to rival Cord’s Raila Odinga who got 5, 340, 546.

Delays in announcing the election outcome were occasioned by breakdown of an electronic system employed by IEBC to relay results from polling centres across the country to the National tallying center at the capital Nairobi.

Amid concerns of the possibility of  the results being compromised due to technical hitches, the IEBC said late yesterday that it would audit the results before releasing the results from the 291 constituencies.
