Kenyan analogue switch off delayed

In a statement issued by the CCK, the Kenyan Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology said it would like to inform members of the public in general, and the residents of Nairobi and its environs in particular, that analogue signal switch off would not be effected on 13th December 2013 as earlier envisaged.

Postponement of the date follows the decision of the High Court on 10th December 2013, restraining the enforcement or implementation of the digital migration date of 13th December 2013, for Nairobi and its environs.

The Government takes cognisance of the support it continues to receive from stakeholders, and wishes to re-iterate its commitment to develop policies and frameworks to help Kenya’s optimal use of available technologies.

In the meantime, the Ministry encouraged consumers to make every effort to acquire set-top boxes of their choice in order to take advantage new broadcasting technologies.

The new analogue switch off date for Nairobi, its environs and for the rest of the country will be advised once the matter in court is concluded.
