Kenya reiterates migration schedule
Kenya’s Minister of Information, Communications and Technology, Dr Fred Matiang’i, has reiterated that analogue broadcasting will be switched off in a phased manner from 13 December this year.
The Ministry issued a statement this week, following reports creating the impression that the deadline for switch-off had been moved to June 2014.
Dr Matiang’i noted that the switch-off dates had been arrived at in consultation with stakeholders, under the auspices of the Digital Television Committee. The analogue switch-off for Nairobi and ts environs remains 13 December 2013. This will be followed by a deadline of 30 March 2014 for Mombasa, Malindi, Nyeri, Meru, Kisumu, Webuye, Kisii, Nakuru and Eldoret; and 30 June 2014 for the rest of the regions.
The Ministry gave the assurance that it was making every effort to ensure a smooth migration.
