Kenyan accelerator GrowthAfrica has partnered cloud computing firm Uhasibu in a bid to address the accounting and financial software needs of East African startups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The companies said the partnership looks to combine GrowthAfrica’s knowledge and experience from accelerating high impact businesses with Uhasibu’s tools and technology in order to help startups scale.
GrowthAfrica’s startups will receive free MiniERP online accounting software from Usahibu for six months and thereafter at a subsidised fee, while Uhasibu leaders will also provide dedicated service, product, financial and accounting training.
“Many SMEs operate without keeping books the first few years, relying on the cash/bank balance to determine the business progress,” said Michael Pedersen, chief executive officer (CEO) of Uhasibu. “Our partnership with GrowthAfrica exemplifies Uhasibu’s vision to support East African SMEs with management tools to help free up otherwise strained resources that can be re-deployed to the business for the their growth.”
GrowthAfrica managing director Patricia Jumi said the company was pleased to work more closely with Uhasibu to strengthen its startups’ financial management systems.
“This partnership underlines GrowthAfrica’s commitment to provide entrepreneurs with the very resources they require to grow their ventures into strong commercial businesses,” she said.
