Glo pays Ghana fine

Glo Mobile has paid its USD200,000 fine for failing to meet roll-out deadlines in Ghana.

Glo Mobile was sanctioned by the Ghana national Communications Authority for failing to meet its deadline for launch, in line with its license conditions.

The operator delayed its launch several times, before beginning operations at the end of April this year.

The NCA announced this week that Glo Mobile Ghana Limited had honoured, in full, the sanctions imposed on the company by the Authority for failing to meet its network roll-out obligations in its Mobile Cellular License. 

The NCA stated: “Annex F of the Mobile Cellular License granted to Glo specifically required the company to roll-out its network to cover six (6) regions, that is, two (2) regions per year within the first three (3) years from the effective date of the licence. 

Glo breached the afore-mentioned licence condition by failing to roll-out its network for over three (3) years since the licence was issued. The Authority therefore imposed the applicable penalty of USD200,000.00 which has since been settled in full by the company.”
