Ghana’s AgroCenta selected for 2018 VC4A showcase – Series A

Ghanaian Agritech start-up firm AgroCenta has been selected along with 8 companies for this year’s Venture Capital for Africa (VC4A) showcase – Series A.
AgroCenta is an innovative online platform that empowers smallholder farmers and farm based organisations in rural farming communities in Ghana to access wider online market to trade fairly and equitably.
Currently the company has 12,000 farmers registered on it network and operates in 15 communities within 4 region in Ghana using over 30 field agents. It’s estimated that AgroCenta paid over $ 220,000 to smallholder farmers in the country.
The Ghanaian venture firm joins Fibre Lifestyle Inc -Nigeria, Gebeya Inc -Ethiopia, GoMetro - South Africa, Invoiceworx-South Africa, Nawah-Scientifi-Egypt, Piggybank-Nigeria and Shezlong-Egypt to showcase their business in front of investors during the Africa Early Stage Investors Summit in Cape Town next month November from the 11th to 12th , with the aim of raising $250,000 to $ 5 million in Series A capital.
According to the organisers, all the companies provided a technology-intensive or innovation-based product or service that is currently available in one or more African market.
Over the next few weeks, the eight selected start-ups will be linked to the top investors as mentors and receive access to the bespoke curriculum before the week residency in Cape Town, South Africa.
The VC4A program offers two days of networking opportunities at the Africa Early Stage Investors Summit, where entrepreneurs will also engage with interested investors during their deep-dive sessions.
Participants will also have the opportunity to pitch to a wider audience of corporate, investors and tech professionals at VC4A partner event AfricaCom and AfricArena.
