Ghana leverages digitisation to strengthen governance and enhance service delivery

The government of Ghana has reiterated its unflinching commitment to leverage on technology and digitisation, to strengthen and improve the delivery of service within the country’s public sector.
Following the recent migration of some public institutions including the Ports, Lands Commission, Ministry of Tourism and the Passport Office onto the various digital platforms, government says it has witness efficiency in service delivery and massive improvement in revenue mobilization, and promised not to renege in its determination to use technology to enhance productivity.
Addressing participants at the just ended Ghana Digital Roadmap Conference held on the theme ‘Moving Ghana Beyond Aid: Expanding the Local Digital Economy’ in Accra, the Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said the adoption of technology in all sectors of the Ghanaian economy, will not only help attract potential international investor, but help the nation to overcome geographic barriers and inspire entrepreneurship as well as becoming the ICT leader in Sub-Sahara Africa by 2023.
He mentioned the instant issuance of the Ghana Digital Card, e-business registration, e-justice system, digital property addressing system, mobile money interoperability system, paperless port system, e-smart driver’s license, electronic renewal of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) among some of the digital initiatives embarked upon by the government, and yielding impressive outcomes.
The Ghana Digital Roadmap Conference was organized by the Office of the President in partnership with the Communications Ministry, with the aim of reviewing Ghana’s Information and Communication Technology for Accelerated Development (ICT4AD) Policy document in line with digital opportunities, and generate ideas to develop a digital strategy and an implementation plan to establish Ghana as the leader in ICT innovation in Sub Sahara Africa by 2023.
