Gabon Telecom MD redeployed to Ivory Coast
By Issa Sikiti da Silva
Lhoussaine Oussalah is no longer the managing director of Gabon Telecom(GT). Oussalah is leaving Central Africa and heading to West Africa in Ivory Coast (Cote d’Ivoire), where he is expected to lead mobile operator Moov Cote d’Ivoire.
Both Gabon Telecom and Moov CI are subsidiaries of Maroc Telecom.
Some observers say Moov CI, which is reportedly said to be running out of breath, needs the managerial muscles of Oussalah to lift it out of the bushes.
Analysts also believe that Oussalah must be given credit for catapulting Gabon Telecom to the summit even though its mobile arm Libertis has yet to dethrone Airtel Gabon as the market leader.
Oussalah is said to be the mastermind behind the launch of 4G technology in Gabon – the first of its kind in Central Africa – and an architect of the operator’s latest series of lower prices.
The Moroccan giant took control of Moov CI alongside other Moov operations in Gabon, Togo, the Central African Republic, Niger, and Burkina Faso to the tune of 474 million euros.
Sources said Maroc Telecom is expected to make an announcement on major investments meant to give a lifeline to some of Moov operations said to be in bad shape. And Maroc Telecom wants Oussalah to be part and parcel of this ‘resuscitation’ process.
However, everything was not smooth sailing for Oussalah at the helm of Gabon Telecom. At some stage, workers went on strike, accusing Oussalah and his team of failing to fulfill their promise to pay workers' bonuses for overtime in the past seven years.
