Extended Bonga brings relief for cash-strapped Kenyans

Safaricom has extended the Bonga For Good Campaign until the 3rd June 2020, enabling customers to use their points to purchase goods and services as well as donate. Phase one saw over 200,000 customers redeeming more than 670 million points worth KES 200 million, boosting over 140,000 participating merchants.

The new initiative empowers customers with additional cash-flow, to buy food and essential services by enhancing the value of Bonga Points by 50%, from 20 cents to 30 cents. More importantly, it also allows customers to donate their Points to those in need.

Items accessed through the system include food, medicine, personal protective equipment and the payment of utility bills. Many customers are now redeeming their points for mobile data as they spend more time online.

Bonga For Good has also seen Corporates donate points to employees and charity causes – a welcome relief in challenging times.
