Eto'o plans ‘surprise’ launch
The launch date for the new telecoms service owned by football star Samuel Eto’o is to be ‘a surprise’.
Eto’o announced late last year that he would launch a mobile service in Cameroon. The service, Set’Mobile, will not be an operator, but a reseller of wireless services. Up to 60 licensees in the country may resell services repackaged under their own brands.
The service was expected to go lve in January, when it announced that it had already sold over 50,000 SIM cards. Set’Mobile CEO Charles Gueret has declined to name the telco’s launch date, saying keeping it under wraps is part of the company’s strategy. However, he said preparations for launch were underway, with up to 550 employees to be associated with the new company.
