Ethiopia targets improved ICT access
Ethiopian Information and Communication Technology Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Debretsion Gebremicheal says the government is endeavoring to improve the access and quality of ICTs in the country.
Addressing the 2nd Annual Ethiopian ICT Entrepreneurship Conference 2012 is Addis Ababa, the Minister said the government is expanding ICT infrastructure, and fiber optic networks, and improving mobile coverage, wireless and internet quality.
He said the number of mobile subscribers in the country had reached over 18 million, accounting for 64% coverage. The government aims to increase this figure to 45 million in the next two years. The wireless coverage of the country has also reached 73%.
Some 3.4 million mobile subscribers are accessing internet service, Dr. Debretsion said, and adding efforts are underway to improve internet access and quality.
